With more than 61 million copies sold, Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best-selling titles of all time, but good luck getting it to run on your PS5 any better than the resolution and frame rate designed for its original PS4 edition. For years now, fans have been begging Rockstar to give the open worlder an update to make it run a bit better on Sony's current console — as it does on Xbox Series X — and as an unexpected patch actually does arrive 18 months after the last one, of course there's no sign of current-gen support.
Instead, patch 1.32 predominantly fixes a bug that caused players to get stuck inside stables in Red Dead Online. To be fair, this does sound like quite an annoying glitch as users had to restart their game in the hopes it would fix things. The update also makes general stability improvements, sets voice chat so it defaults to off, and addresses some crashing issues.
That's all you get for the first Red Dead Redemption 2 patch in a year and a half. As we wrote in a Soapbox almost three years ago: "When Rockstar Games released the PC version, it demonstrated how good Red Dead Redemption 2 could really look and run. A native PS5 version running at 60 frames-per-second that takes advantage of increased performance and visuals sounds like" a great idea. With Rockstar now all hands on deck on GTA 6 development, this tiny patch feels like a nail in the coffin of any realistic hopes for a PS5 update.

I wonder what's the hold up on a patch to match parity with the Xbox version.
Still hearing dialogues at camp I never heard before even on my 4th playthrough, what a game.
@Rafie The Xbox version is also still capped at 30fps.

@Topov81 The game runs at 4K on Xbox Series X; that's the upgrade it has over PS5.
@LiamCroft Doesn't it also run at 4K on Xbox One X? I don't believe there are any enhancements when played on Series X. The article seems to imply that the game is enhanced on current gen on Xbox and not on PS5, but that isn't the case. The game just ran at a higher res on Xbox last gen because the One X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro. This resolution disparity is simply still reflected when the game is played on current gen machines.
Look... if a game sells 61 million you can bet your left butt cheek that they will revisit it in some capacity.
It's just a matter of when - not if.
Could be wrong but this looks like something they might look at after GTA6 and they may even remake the first game and bundle it which would be a lot easier actually considering that they've made most of the assets in RDR2.
I'm still not sure if this game is a chore or a masterpiece. I probably won't play it again, even if it gets a good update.
I sold me red dead 2 because the dream its over. Rockstar you disapoited me
Waiting for the PS5 Pro version.
@TheArt Me too "The Camp" in its self is a masterpiece I even went up to the camp at the beginning and found a White Horse incredible detail from Rockstar.
I say Bully! Bully that remaster.
@Number09 Got that white horse on my 2nd playthrough. Some of the basic horses we overlook are actually beautiful, like the Dappled Bay. Had a Dapple Grey which I named Grey Boi and that wine Thoroughbred I named Fine Wine haha. Nothing's ever touching Red Dead Redemption 2, it's in its own class.
Pretty much my favorite game of all time. Bit of a bummer, but I’m happy to wait til 2037 for RDR3
Well its Rockstar, they'll probably sell the patch eventually as a new game like they did with GTAV
@xDD90x Isn't the One X technically more powerful than the Series S?
@pyrrhic_victory The One X has a slightly more powerful GPU and 2GB more VRAM, so it can push higher resolutions. Otherwise, the Series S is superior overall.
Nice to know Rockstar haven't completely forgotten about RDR2. For a game that has sold over 60 million copies, they sure do treat it like the unwanted step child in comparison their obsession with GTAV.
A patch to help run RDR2 in a PS5 boosted mode, for FREE?! 😱🤯 When there's money to leave on the table for a PS5 native version to flog just like RDR 1 if a theoretical PS6 doesn't feature PS4 game compatibility? This IS Take-two/Rockstar we're talking about!!
Forget which console runs at what resolution. They never even bothered getting HDR to actually work properly on any platform. I swear people let Rockstar get away with things even Nintendo couldn't get away with.
They'll sell the remaster for $80 next Gen which adds what they should have fixed last Gen and nothing more. And people will sadly pre-order.
@LiamCroft wait, so the PS4 version didn't have 4K?
Why release a patch when you can re release the game and make more money off it for another willing to buy the upscaled version
@CutchuSlow It was 2K upscaled to 4K on the PS4 Pro if I remember correctly.(Checkerboard rendering)
@Zeke68 oh ok thanks
